Chow mein are stir-fried noodles,
the name being the romanization of the Taishanese chāu-mèing. The dish is popular throughout the Chinese diaspora and appears on the menus of Chinese restaurants The "Chow mein" is the Cantonese pronunciation of the Chinese characters above, which means stir-fried noodles. Generally speaking, this stir-fried dish consists of noodles, meat (usually chicken, beef, shrimp, or pork), onions and celery. For making chow mein, the noodles need to be cooked in boiling water for a while. After they becoming cool, then move to the step of stir-frying. Ingredients 8 ounces thin lo mein noodles 1 tablespoon peanut oil 1 carrot, julienned 1/2 head napa cabbage, sliced thin 1/2 onion, sliced 1/4 cup chicken broth 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce 1 teaspoon sesame oil Sliced green onions, for topping Directions Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the noodles according to the package directions. Drain and set aside. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the peanut oil. Add the carrots, cabbage and onions and cook for 1 minute. Add the chicken broth, soy sauce and sesame oil, then toss in the noodles. Top with sliced green onions. |
